Two Key Nutrients & Healthy Lifestyle Tips to Help Fight Breast Cancer

By October 31, 2016January 25th, 2018Healthy Lifestyle

Thank you for visiting our blog for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Nearly 250,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women this year alone and rates are increasing by the year. It doesn’t have to be this way and you or your loved ones do not need to be part of this statistic. There are things you can do that research has shown to potentially improve your chances of thwarting off this awful disease. Nothing is fool proof, but at least you can give your body a fighting chance.

The Two Key Nutrients – Vitamin D & Omega 3s

Research has shown promising results when women have higher levels of omega 3 fatty acids and higher levels of vitamin D in their body.

We recommend knowing what your vitamin D level is. This can be tested through a simple blood test that can be ordered by your doctor or even online in the form of a finger prick test. Most Americans are severely deficient. Even here in Florida, most of the people we talk to have levels in the 40s, 30s, or even lower. It’s astonishing considering we live right here in the Sunshine state. It’s absolutely imperative to have your vitamin D levels closer to an optimal range which should be 55-75ish. Research has shown a strong link between vitamin D and breast cancer. Studies have shown that women with low levels of vitamin D are more likely to develop breast cancer. In fact, if your level is over 70 IU, your risk of breast cancer drops 80%! Studies have also shown that in women who already have breast cancer, low levels of vitamin D are linked to worse outcomes, like bigger tumors, cancer spreading to other body parts and death.

The second nutrient we’d like to focus on is omega-3s. Omega-3 deficiency is a common underlying factor for cancer. There have been a lot of studies specifically focusing on the relationship between omega-3 levels and breast cancer. Research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids may lower the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal obese women. The protection likely comes from the fatty acids’ anti-inflammatory effects, say authors. Omega-3 fats also inhibit a pro-inflammatory enzyme called cyclooxygenase 2 (COX 2), which promotes breast cancer. The breast cancer genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2) became more mainstream when Angelina Jolie under went a double Mastectomy after discovering she had a “faulty” BRCA1 gene, which increased her risk of developing the cancer. Omega-3 fats increase the expression of these two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2. BRCA1 (breast cancer gene 1) and BRCA2 (breast cancer gene 2) are tumor suppressor genes that, when functioning normally, help repair damage to DNA, thus helping to prevent cancer development.

How Do I Raise My Levels Naturally?

What’s great about these two nutrients is that you can raise your levels quite easily through supplementation. Now we always like to promote a healthy diet first, but in today’s society it has become quite difficult to get the proper amounts needed to utilize the benefits of these great nutrients. You see, most foods are fortified with Vitamin D2, which is the synthetic version of the nutrient and is basically wasted by the body. Omega-3s are difficult to obtain unless you are eating a lot of high quality seafood, which has become almost non-existent today due to factory farming and harsh toxins that are prevalent in our oceans. For these reasons we have bundled two great products – our own specifically formulated Athlete’s Best Premium Omega-3 Plus & Vitamins D and K.

The Vitamin D supplement included in this bundle features 5000 IU of Vitamin D3, which is the proper form for your body to absorb, as well as vitamins K and sea iodine. Adding vitamin K helps calcium to form in the bones, rather than the arteries. Each bottle includes 60 capsules and is a 60 day supply (1 capsule a day). Our Athlete’s Best Premium Omega-3 Plus in this bundle is a foundation supplement for overall health and wellness. Our unique formula is specifically designed to raise your omega-3 index, or total amount of omega-3 fatty acids within your blood. The key level that’s associated with the benefits from omega-3s is a level over 8%. Most Americans have levels between 3-5%. Our product gets most users above the critical 8% level within 3 months. This also can be tested with a simple blood test – available online, or through your doctor. Each bottle represents a 45 day supply (2 capsules a day). The bundle is available at a discounted rate within our store.

Other healthful tips:
1) Eat only high-quality, natural, nutrient dense foods.
2) Avoid alcohol – or limit to only special occasions.
3) Avoid harmful environmental exposures – BPA, Aluminum in deodorant (search for a natural brand you like).
4) Stress Less & Get Proper Sleep
5) Exercise – Maintain healthy blood sugar balance and body weight
